The Research Institute for Materials Science - ATKI was founded in 1992 as an institution of the research network of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. ATKI is one of the successor institutes of the Central Research Institute for Physics - KFKI, once the largest research establishment of Hungary with a staff of 2200. KFKI, founded in 1950 at the Csillebérc campus site in Budapest, now houses six independent research institutes of the Academy and a number of private enterprises active in R&D. The unique scientific infrastructure of the campus, the accessibility of a variety of special analytical and technical methods, including semiconductor processing, nuclear and ion beam techniques, skills and services, as well as the availability of specialists for consultations, offer a fertile environment for research.
